Once school starts in the fall, Friday nights are typically reserved for one thing—high school football games. The Fat Lady Never Sings tells the true story of Derby, Connecticut’s 1992 Red Raider baseball team as told by then-assistant coach, Steven M. Reilly. When the town’s remarkable 28-year football winning streak comes to an end, three seniors on the team are branded “losers.” Determined to seek redemption by playing on the baseball team, these multi-sport athletes forever leave their mark on this small Connecticut town after helping the team advance to the championship game of the state baseball tournament.

Watch an interview of the author on Sportingnewsct.com's Buffalo Wild Wings "Wing Talk" program at  http://www.sportingnewsct.com/Video.htm . Listen to the author's interview with "The Coach" George DeMaio on WELI 960 am and with Don Boyle of Sportingnewsct.com as well as watch post game celebration video in the "Free Chapters" section of this website.

Strike Three Foundation

I just learned from Joe Lizza, Derby High School's freshman catcher in The Fat Lady Never Sings , that he is now the Chief Operating Officer of the "Strike Three Foundation" a charitable organization founded by Major League Baseball pitcher, Trumbull native and former Yale pitcher  Craig Breslow. The "Strike Three Foundation" is a charitable agency that "heightens awareness, mobilizes support and raises funds for childhood cancer research."  Learn more about this great  foundation and worthy cause at www.strike3foundation.org.

Derby Day 2008

Rain or shine (hopefully shine) I'll be appearing at the Derby Day 2008 festivities taking place from 10: 00 a.m to 5:00p.m. on Saturday, June 21, 2008 on the Derby Green. There will be live music, great food, talented crafters and children's games.  Stop by and say hello, I'll be at the "Derby Author's" booth at a location near the Green, yet to be announced.(In other words, probably off in some obscure location)  Keep looking, I'll be the guy with the giant baseball glove.

New Book by a fellow Valley Author!

For you avid readers of fiction, check out the recently released novel by my good friend, Derby author Tim Conlon, entitled: "The Lost Prophets."  If you want to read a great story about a man's struggle with good and evil, "The Lost Prophets" is a book you'll definitely enjoy reading. I would recommend this book so highly that if you read the book and don't enjoy it, let me know and I'll buy your copy from you.  For more information about the book check out the book's website at www.thelostprophetsbook.com .

Where are they now, cont.

Thanks to Pete Chrzanowski(centerfielder and tri-captain of the 1992 team) I was finally able to track down Donny Shepard(pitcher and tri-captain of the 1992 team)  I learned that Donny married about two years ago, moved back to  Connecticut and currently lives in Cromwell.

White Dots-Special Edition

I banged my snow covered shoes on the rubber runner as I once again ventured into the Barnes and Noble in Orange. Rumor had it, the White Dots would get bigger as the store's closing neared. I wouldn't have gone in, except Sue wanted to see if better bargains could be had. She was right. The white dotted books were now at 50% off.

I trudged toward the aisle where I last saw my book. A short middle-aged woman with silver-gray tied back hair had my book in her hand, her eyes peering down at its back cover. "It's a great book," I exclaimed. Somehow I felt guilty. Why I didn't know; it wasn't as if I was trying to sell her a loaf of yesterday's Italian bread.
